documentary photo work

since 2024

The recurring entity of menstruation has accompanied and occupied me for 30 years. On the one hand, this work is about inviting the premenstrual syndrome (PMS), the pain - triggered by cramps - and the feeling of being beside oneself and, on the other hand, making the materiality of menstrual blood visible and representable. Through Ana Mendieta's work, I sharpened my approach: I create on the spot, documenting color, consistency and condition in photographic format. I find the natural periodicity and working at the peak of menstrual pain remarkable.

social media FINAL

since 2021

Since 2021, I have no longer been utilizing and promoting artistic works in the digital space on platforms Facebook and Instagram. By establishing an appropriate temporality, that I rearrange  works, develop them further, let them rest and, if necessary, take them up again, I offer them a “safe & brave space”. This new “time identity” of my work has enormously improved the quality of the content and my joie de vivre. This project was inspired by the Dutch internet critic Geert Lovink and led to the complete abandonment of Facebook and Instagram in 2024. Will the social media FINAL phase be followed by the social NET phase?

In this work, I attach polystyrene mirrors to trees in public spaces. In the mirror I let the surroundings depict themselves. I have photographed these situational images and called them an exhibition in responsive self-assertion: my Schlosswald exhibition. Who is allowed to do what, where does professionalism begin, who is authorized to use singular, fixed terms, who defines which framework?

Vilina Vlas Spa Hotel

Višegrad, Bosnia-Herzegovina

During my research trip “trauma essence in public space” in spring 2023, I went to the Vilina Vlas Spa Hotel in Višegrad in Bosnia-Herzegovina to get an idea of the extent to which the war crimes of mass rape of Muslim women committed by the Serbian paramilitary group “White Eagle” in 1992 had been dealt with. The failure to come to terms with the wars from a female perspective led me to Christina Lamb's work “Our Bodies, Their Battlefield: What War Does to Women”. I returned in summer 2024 and managed to work in one of the hotel rooms (which are all crime scenes). The documentary photographic works are exhibited together with a plystyrene mirror confronting the viewers themselves, a “Nutbogen”/„Nut-arch“ and my text Zeit-Identität.

The “Nut-arch” refers to Nut as the goddess of heaven, whose body stretches protectively over the earth according to mythological imagination. My self-designed and sewn “Nut-arch” covers all people who have experienced sexual violence in a healing way.

summer / fall 2022

Inspired by the musician Christoph M. Hamann, I decided to play music on the streets with my instrument in summer 2022. For this action, I unraveled the “classical music corset” and played Céline Dion's “My Heart Will Go On” from pop music with playback in a continuous loop on my clarinet in order to consciously position myself against the premiere madness. Instead of serving a privileged audience in concert halls, I offer a visually concrete setup with reduced volume as an offer for passers-by.

social enactment

Renault Kangoo, sewing machine, self-sufficient energy system, fur, karaoke microphone with plastic flowers

since 2023

During Manifesta 14, which took place in Kosovo's capital Pristina in 2022, I happened to end up at a market that was already closed. A market table had been left alone and uncovered with a large mountain of clothes. I couldn't stop thinking about the mountain of clothes.

Inspired by the vision of sewing this mountain of clothes into a coherent structure, the project “Street seamstress Céline from Pristina” was created in 2023. The adapted street music setup and a self-sufficient energy system are the basis for operating my sewing machine as an “instrument” everywhere. At a place of my choice, I open the trunk lid of my Renault Kangoo, set up my sewing machine and the setup and start working. My approach is intuitive except for these guidelines: I don't claim to be a professional seamstress, I work with found fabrics, accept everything except money as compensation for the value of the creative work I have done and hand over the appreciation to my counterpart.

This art action can be seen as a social enactment, as it represents a situational, visually concrete setup, but in contrast to the street musician, it allows verbal interaction.
